In the western middle of New Jersey, Hunterdon County shares the agricultural heritage of Burlington County. Peaches have been grown since the 1850's, the first artificial breeding association was formed here, and cheese and poultry farming were active as far back as the 1700's.

The county covers 429 square miles; the 2000 population was estimated at 122,000.
